When Harry Met Sally

15 June 2008 | 0:31:02 AM

Listening: Alice Peacock ft. John Mayer - Bliss

Last night I (believe it or not) saw When Harry Met Sally (WHMS) for the first time! I've been searching for the movie since months ago, but when my trips to various CD stores yielded no result, I decided to just download it.

And now I know why some people think of it as the best romantic comedy movie ever. WHMS is different from today's movie from that genre. Although the basic storyline is pretty common, there were some great lines and scenes in WHMS. That scene where Meg Ryan demonstrated a fake orgasm in a crowded cafetaria is pretty priceless :D

The "falling in love with the best friend" storyline is nothing new, but I like the way they portrayed the problems and personal issues related to that. A lot of today's romantic comedy movies lack of this kind of portrayal, and this what makes WHMS so good and memorable I guess. And naturally, being a good romantic comedy movie, it left you feeling really good after watching it.

Changes.

Listening: Lifehouse - Storm

To begin with an oxymoron-of sort, change is the constant thing in life.
Life goes on, and there will always be things that change over time. People come and go, different places, different situations. Whether you like it or not, things will change. And if you don't like it, you just have to learn to like it, or at least be neutral about it.

I, for one, don't really like for things to change so quickly. Which is a bit odd in itself since I'm living in a city where things change in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of way. From experience I also know that my adapting skill is well enough not to get me in trouble. So why the dislike? Comfort zone is one major reason. We all like to be comfortable, who doesn't? We all feel comfortable in the presence of familiar faces of family and friends, familiar environment and surrounding. But sometimes when things are not getting anywhere, sometimes you just have to make that leap out of your comfort zone, and try to find new things that would work for you. I tried this when I moved to Sydney (although obviously I didn't think of it this way back then), and despite of the first few months of discomfort, I managed to stumble my way through.

Sure, at first it won't be easy. But if you play your cards right, you'll eventually find your comfort zone back.

I know you didn't bring me out here to drown
So why am I 10 feet under and upside down
Barely surviving has become my purpose
Cause I'm so used to living underneath the surface

If I could just see you, everything will be alright
If I see you, the storminess will turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
And everything will be alright

-- Lifehouse {Storm}

ps: This entry is dedicated to a very good friend who is moving to Jakarta tonight; who I know will eventually find his way around the city and its people :)

Moyo!

Listening: Matchbox Twenty - If You're Gone

It's the end of April! Time went by so fast these days.

I haven't been blogging much, but I'm not exactly gone. I update my Flickr more frequent lately (with stock of old photos, but an update is still an update :P)

Work is the same as always; although it's a bit calmer now than the deadline-hell from before LOL. For the past week I'm occupied with my cousin and niece staying at my place. My niece is now obsessed with Edo, which is really cute (and Edo is being such a great boy, just sitting there patiently while the niece pokes / pounces / pulls / drools / pulls him).

Speaking about obsession. My latest addiction would defintely be Grey's Anatomy. Yeah yeah, I know I'm a bit late on jumping the bandwagon, but gotta admit it's a great show. I caught it accidently on JakTV a couple of weeks ago, and I'm hooked straight away. And since then I've been watching it religiously every Saturday evening (JakTV is doing a double-episode per week) :D I'm now up to the beginning of season 2. I want to get the DVD, but haven't got the chance to go to my usual DVD place so for now I'm perfectly intent on waiting for every Saturday to come.

And to make things better, Grey's got great soundtracks. Just like things with House, I'm now busy tracking down the songs they used on the episodes I've watched. Hee. I can be freaky when obsessing over things.

Hee.

A lyrical entry.

07 April 2008 | 21:59:50 PM

Love love LOVE the lyric.

Can you describe the moment when two people fall in love?
Some say the clouds will spin in circles and the rain will turn to doves
The poor will start to laugh, even the rich will start to cry
It can sneak up like a soldier, it can wake you up at night

That's what I feel when I'm standing here with you
That's what my heart has sworn to be true

This is love
It's written on my face
It's the way I lean my body towards you
Even when I'm a hundred miles away
This is love
Like a diamond in the sand
It took so long to find you
I can't wait another day to say
This is love

You take my imperfections, you turn them into art
If I could change one thing about you, there would be no place to start
You are safety without numbers, you are dangerously wild
But you're sweeter than rock candy, and you ease my inner child
That's what I feel when I'm standing here with you
That's what my heart has sworn to be true

This is love
It's written on my face
It's the way I lean my body towards you
Even when I'm a hundred miles away
This is love
Like a diamond in the sand
It took so long to find you
I can't wait another day to say
This is love

Now I'm no easy angel, and I'm moody like the wind
I am impatient, complicated, I am fragile deep within
But you're no fool, and I'm no little girl
Have we not found there's love in the world?

This is love
I said it's written on my face
It's the way I lean my body towards you
Even when I'm a hundred miles away
This is love
Like a diamond in the sand
It took so long to find you
I can't wait another day to say
This is love

Planning ahead.

03 April 2008 | 22:30:56 PM

Listening: Melee - Built To Last

Speaking of plans, I had planned a somewhat-catchy opening paragraph for this entry. But alas, I forgot :P

I think we all have plans on daily basis. It could something basic like what to eat for lunch, or where to go this weekend. Sure, from time to time we could get spontaneous and do a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing, but most likely we make plans.

For me, I'm the kind of person who ponders what to eat for lunch and dinner even before she has breakfast. You may think that I'm the planner-kind (even though Boh would just say "BOKUS!"), but here's where it gets confusing. I was the little kid without an answer to the "what do you wanna be when you grow up?" question. I had no idea, and no plans whatsoever, where I would get a job after I graduated. I just sort of go where life takes me, and here I am.

However, I could never absolutely do something like that for much smaller things. Take holiday trips, for example. Tales of family and friends who dared to go on a trip without hotel reservations totally freaked me out. I did something like that a couple of times actually, and prefer not to do it again unless it can't be avoided. I like carefully-planned trips, I think it gives me some sense of security.

Now the question is: when is the right time to plan? I found out that if you plan too far ahead, you'd tend to build up expectations. And when things don't go as you expected them to be or there are things that suddenly come up, the disappointments can be too much to handle. However, if you plan just before the actual event takes place, you might miss out on opportunities, like finding out the fried chicken you've been craving is sold out, or not getting the early-bird discounts. I have yet to find the 'just right' timing for this question.

If you have the answer to tonight's big question, please let me know. I seriously need help :P

On a completely random topic, for some reason my Winamp (which is on shuffle mode) had played this Melee song three times (!) while I'm writing this entry. I think it begs to be posted? I like the straight-forward lyric, so there you go.

I've looked for love in stranger places,
but never found someone like you.
Someone whose smile makes me feel I've been holding back,
and now there's nothing I can't do.

'Cause this is real, and this is good.
It warms the inside just like it should,
but most of all it's built to last.

All of our friends saw from the start.
So why didn't we believe it too?
Whoa yeah, now look where we are.
You're in my heart now.
And there's no escaping it for you.

'Cause this is real, and this is good.
It warms the inside just like it should,
but most of all it's built to last.

-- Melee {Built To Last}
